Troy was born in Sydney, Australia and currently lives on the Gold Coast in Queensland. He started playing the drums at the age of 10 and during Troy's early years of drums, he was an active member of local bands, orchestras and community groups being exposed to musical styles like funk, jazz, rock and classical music. He began receiving private drum lessons at the age of 12, where he learnt how to read and develop his skills, whilst being influenced by drummers such as Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Virgil Donati, Chad Smith and many more.

At the age of 16 Troy came 2nd in 'Australia's Best Up & Coming Drummer Competition’ held in Melbourne, judged by renowned drummers Dom Famularo, Darryn Farrugia and David Jones . At this stage Troy was also working in various corporate cover bands and in musical productions at the Gold Coast Arts Centre and was teaching at local music schools, where his passion for teaching also began.

After finishing school, Troy completed a Bachelor of Popular Music at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University (2005). He created his YouTube channel a few years later (featuring drum covers, live performance footage and lessons) that now has 130 thousand subscribers and over 15 million views collectively. Troy also played in various original projects that toured Australia at the time, whilst opening his own music school and recording studio ‘Wright Music School’.

In 2014, Troy began playing with guitar virtuoso Plini, which led to several tours in North America, Europe, the UK and Asia and played drums on the album ‘Handmade Cities’. He also played drums and toured with instrumental bands such as Intervals (from Canada), David Maxim Micic (from Serbia) and Nick Johnston (from Canada). In 2017 Troy was asked to tour full time with Australian heavy metal band The Amity Affliction, touring the USA, UK and headlining the Unify festival in Melbourne. Taking time away from touring in 2019, Troy expanded his music school where he currently employs 20 teachers, with over 500 weekly students. In 2023 Troy was asked to fill in for Dan Searle - drummer of Architects (UK) for their Australian tour. Currently, Troy plays with Australian country music artist James Johnston touring Australia and abroad.
